Found a great little editorial piece here on Cathode Tan about Duke Nukem Forever. Should this game be canned, finally? Will it even stand up to the modern gamer? I mean, really, the kids that play 3D shooters these days won’t even have known The Duke by the time the game is actually finished.

I guess I will regret the “Duke Nukem Forever” tattoo I got. I have to say while everyone else was enjoying Quake and DoomII, I was loving Duke3d and it’s non-reality, comically (stripper)enhanced goodness. What was the cheat code to make the women dance in boobie-tasles(sp) again? MmmmmMMM boobie-tasles.

duke3d was, and still is, a great game. i enjoyed it a lot more than Quake, back in the day before using a mouse and keyboard. I have no idea how it was possible to play games without the mouse, but it was.

duke3d sure took the FPS to the next level by adding the jump capability. no more knee-high ledges obstructing your path. i remember long afternoons of playing that at the tiliting planet and the numerous quotables that came of it:
“it’s time to kick ass and chew bubble gum. and i’m all out of gum.”
